Got this one as the sun was just coming into the valley. This bull had a damaged eye and a noticeable limp but he still answered the other bugles echoing through the meadow. 7D, 400DO, f4.5, 1/640s, ISO 1600, HH, removed a dark OOF branch from the FG, cropped all around for comp and to eliminate some other OOF objects.

Wow -- love the detail in this guy! Maybe reduce contrast on the BG a little? That would take it from 99.9 to 100%.

Beautiful image Steve! Love the light and setting in this as well as the capture of the bugle. Exposure and detail look great. Always love seeing elk images and look forward to the opportunity to make some myself hopefully one day. Thanks for sharing!

Superb work, Steve. Lots to like here, comp, textures, details, and the wonderful capture of the elk bugling from a resting position. Very nicely done.
