    Default Sweet Face Barn Owl

    Attached Images Attached Images

I'm working on my CS6 PP skills and went back to this series of barn owl images that I took in January. This image turns out to be the sweetest image of the sequence with the owl face in sharp focus and I love the dangling feet and the wing position.

    1/8000

    ISO-1000

Applied NR on BG and in the shadow under the wings only.

    Appreciate your comments and feedback.

    Thank you

Very crisp and clean, nice detail. What is yor procedure for BG noise reduction? Did you mask the owl?

Sharp image, nicely exposed. I would love to see more room to the right of the shot. Also, another round of NR on the BG would be great. Strange to see such noise level for this body, could it be from the resizing?

I like the pose very much, I sense the dark plumage is a little too dark, and the facial disk a tad bright (though not burnt out) I think this is a the conversion through DPP???

Thank you everyone for your comments. This image was taken shortly after sun rise and although the owl was well lit, the BG was not due to the oak grove, which explained why the BG noise is high at ISO-1000 for the 1DX. I ran twice again NR just to the BG. The owl was put on a different layer. I couldn't tell the difference in PS6, but will post a repost here.

As for RAW conversion, yes, i converted this in DPP per Artie's and Arash's instructions. The whites were right on between 230-235, so I'm pretty sure there was no blown pixels. On the high resolution image, the owl face looks rich with details and sweet, thus the title. This has to be one of my best owl images and thnak you for helping me to improve it.

Yes, Jim, I used Quick Selection tool in PS CS6 to put the owl on a different layer then applied NR to the BG.

Troy, the BG was a mix of green and brown/red vegetation at a distance, some were still in the shadow, thus the high BG noise. I rn out of canvas on he right. I could add, but decided not to mess too much with it.

Arash, thank you for pointing out the noise in the BG. Side by side, I think the RP is a little cleaner. Loi
