This is the second individual I photographed the other day, and this one is a bit further along on its' molt. The yellow tufted "horns" are starting to grow, and the black feathers on the face are well on there way. A full breeding plumaged individual would be awesome but it's always fun to get transitional plumages too! I love the water envelopping the subject here...choppy waters often addd lots of interesting elements to images.

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/1000s., f/5, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, small crop left and bottom for comp. Audio used.

Amazing image again, Daniel. I was shooting one in full breeding plumage yesterday at Colonel Samuel Smith Park, Etobicoke (Greater Toronto).
I wish you could have been there.

    Daniel,

Another great one with the 500. As usual, love the low angle for this one. I'm usually a fan of still water, but the waves are clean here - a nice plus.

I would add a bit of contrast (darker blacks in this case) to see the effect.

Love the low angle view and the water rolling over the bird.

    500mm WHAT?!
Beautiful image, the choppy water is an element that definitely adds interest.
    Dead sharp, perfect exposure.
    Scuba gear?

What do you think of this crop?

500mm...yepper!! Your re-comp is subtly but effectively cropped, I like it. No scuba gear though...just a great spot where land meets water in a very low slope so I just took up my usual flat on my belly approach

Nice composition and excellent exposure control and sharpness.
