    Default Drake Northern Shoveler

These are one of the most common ducks in my area during the winter migration and are one of the more challenging ducks to get exposed properly. I caught a straight wings down pose on this one.

Thanks as always for looking and for your input. Appreciated

Excellent freeze. A little more space to the right, towards the direction of the flight, would have further enhanced the BIF.

Stunner David, lovely wing form and the colors have exposed very nicely, like the quality of light and especially like the way it shines on the bill { small things= small minds lol } Background is also very nice, but i would add more canvas on the right

Perfect down-wing pose David! You've nailed the exposure here as well. Love the eye.

    David:

Love the pose, with wings all the way down, head our way a sliver. Great display of his colors, like the tightly tucked in feet. I would also like to have more room all the way around, esp. in front.

Is there a shadow at the rear base of the wing giving a dusky appearance there, or is that just the natural coloration?

    Cheers

    Randy

I like the detail on the jet-black bill. Overall a great photo. Fine job.

The tight crop works very well for web presentation, but I agree that otherwise more room for the comp would be better. Colours, sharpening, pose all look A-1!

Thanks everyone for the comments and input. Appreciated.

Randy, the dusty dark spot at the base of the wing is not a shadow but the natural color of the feathers. It is almost black at that point. Thanks for your input and help.

I tend to crop shots that are pretty sharp a bit tighter, especially ones with a blue sky or water BG, so the viewer can focus on the details. I agree, a bit more in the front would have been better though.

i love the image here, the wing position you have here is **** difficult to capture really appreciate this one.
i guess the things on room in front is the only thing i would have liked, however the idea of getting the focus on the bird and keeping the composition this way works well for me

Hi David, you cant better this wing position, so well captured there. You dont seemed to have been bothered with the exposure, looks great from here, and I really like the green sheen on the head. As mentioned, enough space all round, but more infront wont harm.

This looks great with the slight head turn towards you. Full stroke down pose is very nice and I really like the tight composition. Well done.

Stunner. As mentioned, a little more room around would be beneficial!
