    Default Koi

I didn't do much to this koi. It started out as a long exposure and looked pretty pale and washed out so I opened it in PS5 to do a curves adjustment. I started playing around with the presets and liked the color negative preset. Part of the image was fairly dark so I did a dup layer/screen and brushed in the effect on the darker area. Then added a border in Nik Color Efex and my chop.

Great oriental-type image! Love the saturated reds, deep, deep blacks and the faded black frame that plays nicely with the less intense blacks lines that create the feeling of motion in the water.

Striking image, love the deep red and black contrast. As Nancy mentions, the black streaks in the water really give a sense of moving water. This would make a nice banner!

A combination of things makes this work for me. One is the alignment of your chop, the dark line above the koi, and the fish, itself, into a strong diagonal. I like the black -- including that on the frame -- with that rich red/orange. The best part of the color is that both the background and the koi become darker from one side of the image to the other. In a sense, it gives the impression of the fish moving to explore -- or perhaps enjoy -- the darkness of deeper water.

This is very well done with all the elements of composition, color and textures of the water coming together perfectly!

isn't "playing" fun! and then you "accidentally" discover a great image like this one.

Brilliant in color and design simplicity. Ripples, and framing work very nicely as mentioned to fill out the BG without competing. And you have your own chop.
Yes, a nice kite as well.
