The above image was captured at William Hawrelak Park, Edmonton, AB, Canada, about a week after the FOS's were observed locally. These are very tame local park birds and there is no need for a longer focal length, but I might as well kept my distance, and the DOF is thinner at a longer focal length is thinner and for a bit of mirroring/juxtaposition. I also wanted to show the contrast between the slightly more red plumage versus the typical white plumage.
I like the soft pastel colors and the low angle. Very interesting the reddish plumage on the belly. I understand the goal you had with this image, but I'd also do version without the OOF bird.
Nice concept with the second bird -- it works for me. And I like the high-key. If it were mine, I'd think about a little off the top, so there is about the same empty space above the bird as below.
