    Default Green Heron

One close up from today. With some slow approach I managed to get to the minimum focusing distance to this heron while the sun came out one last time under the clouds before setting.
I had to do a strong jpeg compression to be able to fit it into the size limit. Hope it is still ok.

Excellent portrait. I like composition, IQ, open beak & hanging tongue. Great handheld shot at 1/250s. TFS

The droopy tongue is unusual, but very cool. Not seen this species before, the colors are very rich on it, fine detail is extra good, IQ is just starting to show a little noise I think...all sits perfectly in the frame and wonderful smooth backdrop

Really nice portrait shot of the Greenie. I'm impressed at such clarity for a handheld shot at 1/250 with your set-up.

Excellent close up portrait here with outstanding clarity on the eye (for HH @ 1/250! @ 700mm!!!) and a beautifully blurred BG. The hanging tongue is the icing on the cake.

Light colours, comp all look great. That tongue is quite whisical! The fine detail is starting to look a bit coarse to me.

Sweet graduated bg, excellent comp and light. Love the open bill. The hanging tongue sets this image apart.

Thank you guys for the comments. I am very happy with this one, especially to be able to handhold the gear with 1/250th. I did several shots in continuous shooting mode and have some keepers and some unsharp that went to the bin:-)
