    Default Atypical BIRDS AS ART

While I love to work tight, clean, and graphic there are times when a wider view catches my eye. I love to be at DeSoto in the pre-dawn especially on clear days. The blue above the Gulf is the earth shadow and above that is a lovely soft pink that is reflected by the water.

These Brown Pelicans were photographed with the Canon 500mm f/4L IS lens and the EOS-1D MIII. ISO 640. Evaluative metering + 1 2/3 stops: 1/125 sec. at f/4.

Artie, I try this type of imge all the time but they hardly ever come out like this. Love the colors and birds but the way the birds are angled upward give me the impresion of a tilt in Horizon. Lovely lght and a great sheen on the water.

    Artie,
    Beautiful image.
I love the colors, the room and the placement in the frame of the Pelicans.
For taste I would prefer the Pelican on the far left to be looking in the same direction as the group.
Atypical could become typical if your are not careful!

I wish the the bird on the left was oriented on the same angle of the other four birds.
I try to crop it without the bird on the left, but it lost the balance you accomplish.
    Anyway, I love it.

Know these mornings well and the color in the water is great. I like the far left pelican look left - adds tension and drama to the image.

I think this image is one you have to study before you can put your finger on as to why you like it. I immediately like the soft colors in the water. I had to think about the bird placement to really see the far left as a hold out bird. It adds tension and drama as Robert noted. I could leave out the horizon in this one. But it is your image and as such it is OK as is. A nice refreshing change of the usual.
