Hey Andreas - good to see you posting again. I like the side-on profile of the distinctive face here, and also the red in the eye and on the scars/wounds.
Nice low angle too. Wish for the whole seal but it does work as presented for me...I presume FF side-to-side on your 500mm? It does seem to need a slight CCW rotation too?

Hi Andreas, I agree with Morkels' comments. Additionally, I find the penguins in the BG a bit distracting because of the brightness. I also like the falling snow. Such ponderous critters—they must be fun to see & photograph.

Hi Andreas - I also agree with Morkel's comments. The penguins don't bother me though. The scars give this bull a lot of character.

Hi Andreas, a warm welcome back, although this maybe a fleeting visit from you i think, but it's great to see managing to take the time to process & post.

I really like the image for the sense of scene it creates with the weather, you can feel the cold and miserable conditions you were shooting in and what these animals have to endure. I would agree with Morkel about an image where the whole seal is in, but as presented I don't mind it, although moving the whole crop to the left, where you have a little less of the seal & more space to the left I think would create a better balance. The penguins are an integral part of the image and therefore the DOF looks spot on. Good detail in the seal considering the techs and the body scares show it's a tough life even at that size & weight. As presented the only thing I would tweak is the Mid tone, just to add a fraction more depth and to help control the whites a fraction more. I did toy as you know with 'culling' the RH penguin, but on reflection I feel you need it in.

    PS Sharpness looks good.

Thanks to all you guys for leaving a comment, appreciate them all.

I heard from a mysterious person, that i have been missed here, thanks for that , never thought it would like so.

think you are right with the rotation and the mid tones.

    Image is FF.

Hope i find more time in the near future, but sometimes life is not going as you like it !!!!!!

    Cheers Andreas
