Yes... taken from a kayak!
I paddled over to this section of Summit Lake where there are several dead trees sticking out of the water. These trees serve as a nesting site for several of these birds each year. I noticed on several occasions two of them would chase each other, skimming the surface of the water. I positioned myself in my kayak with the sun at my back, and waited about 45mins for two of them to lock up.
Great action capture, Jason! I shoot from a kayak, too, so can relate to the challenge. Hope the wind/current didn't mess with your position during the wait... You might run some NR on the background...
Noisy BG has been mentioned, otherwise well done. Both birds are fairly sharp with great action. I know how fast this happens so congratulations on a fine shot.
A very hard to achieve shot, but you have done very well, really quite sharp, timing is excellent, love the water splashes and water color and blue sheen on the necks...very eye catching image
