    ISO 800 1600 @ F8 . +1/3 exp comp. matrix metering. full frame.

I know that most of the Marsh Harrier is in shadow but I like the last rays of sunshine creating the rim lighting around wing/chest /head...be interested in your views...

The pose and lookback are great but it really is quite underexposed and there is a visible S/H halo. Have you tried a different exposure comp. in this situation, +1 to +2 or so?

I agree that this photo would benefit from somewhere in the +1 to +2 exposure compensation. I think you could have preserved the effect while still bringing out a bit more detail in the bird. Do like the rest of the photo though.

You can lighten it up in shadow highlight.

I think the bird is really too dark to use the S/H tool effectively without introducing too much noise. I'll agree that the pose and look-back look cool though, but that's about it, sorry.

Peter, Have you tried using the advanced DLighting in Nikon Capture NX on this? I think you have enough detail in the hawk for DLighting to brighten it. Or just change the exposure in NX. I love that head turn and pose.
