Not the most colourful bird, but what a beautiful streamlined classic bird shape this species has! A fortunate encounter with a large migrating flock along an agricultural road last Fall allowed for some good closeup images. Audio used, lying flat on the ground behind my car as a blind.

Canon 7D + 100-400L @300mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/800s., f/6.3, ISO 400, natural light, handheld, URC smudge cloned out, some of the brighter pebbles toned down via burn tool.

Wasn't aware Pipits existed elsewhere ...interesting. Most Pipits here are found off the sides of road and usually perched atop fences.

Nice one Daniel, head tuirn is nice as it the placement in frame

Love the comp. , color palete and low angle. Might take just a bit off the bottom. Still a winner.

Love the classic shape, and sharpness combined with shallow DOF.

I'm conflicted about the darker OOF stones on the right. They are lovely but pull my eye away from the bird. What would you think about a tighter crop, mostly from the right and just a little from the top and bottom?

    Very nice shot.
    Perfect pose and great IQ.
I like Diane's suggestion about the crop.
I like the green layer at the top- adds some punch to the plain colors of the pipit,

Man that's a sharp one. He must have been pretty close. Great job getting down on the road as it dosnt look like a road from that view. Nice work

This is really nice, Daniel. The low angle makes for a great perspective and a clean background. I like the head turn as well. I saw this species for the first time last week in Arizona-they do not stand still for long!

Good point about those rocks at right, thanks! I think I'll clone them out though (or lighten them) as I rather like the size of the subject in the frame.

I like the symmetry of rocks at left & rocks at right, and thusly like your picture as-is. Also: a pipit at 300mm is no mean feat. Kudos, etc!
