Default 16 bit tiff conversion to 8bitt.

    Hi all,
I would like to know what is the best way to convert a 16bit tiff image to an 8bit tiff image. I am using CS6 for my image editing and any help will be gratefully appreciated.
with many thanks in anticipation of the replies,

Mark - not sure if it is the best but you can simply go into "Mode" under "Image" and do it there.

Thanks for the info Rachel, the help is much appreciated. It sounds so simple, I wonder if there are any other ways other than converting to 8 bit tiff images in ACR when converting the RAW image. Thanks again,
    Mark.

Mark - just to clarify that is in PS6 not ACR. You can do all your pp etc, have a saved 16 bit tiff and convert later by just changing the mode and saving.

Hi Rachel, thanks, that is what I have done in Photoshop CS6. Saving a16 bit and 8 bit tiffs. Very easy to do now with the changes made in Image>mode.
    With many thanks,
    Mark

MArk thats the way to do it in PS you really want to work on a 16 bit file so I would not recommend doing it in ACR at the beginning of your work flow.

    Hi Don,
Thanks for your help. I convert my images from RAW in ACR into 16 bit images as a general rule and then continue my processing in Photoshop CS6. It is just a one off that I need to convert to 8 bit, so your and Rachel's help has been invaluable.
    With many thanks,
    Mark.
