    Default painterly rose

I just upgraded from CS4 to CS6, and decided to try out the oil paint filter on this image of a rose. I also applied the film grain filter to provide a little additional definition. I like the effect on the rose (let me know what you think), but I'm not too happy with the background so suggestions are welcome.

Hi Wendy, I like it. I love the oil paint effect. I love the color of the flower and the two effects you chose. I like the crop. I don't mind the BG and really like the color contrast with the red/white flower. I like the color of the BG maybe you could just clone out the reddish areas. Nice job.

Hi, Wendy, you could post a bigger image (1024 wide x 800 high). I think it would give us a better idea of the treatment you used. I would remove the dark spot on the petal at the upper edge of the image.

I haven't made the jump yet to CS6, I like the painting effect. Wild patterns on this flower, colors are cool. I probably would have left a little room around the rose.

Wendy: I think your evaluation of this image is right on. The painterly effect you used works really well on this lovely image. I, too, am not thrilled by the background. Here is one option for your consideration--a crop that eliminates the background. Thanks for sharing and hope to see more of your work.

Anita, thanks! I really like the way you cropped this...by removing the distracting background, the crop really brings out the features of the rose.
