    Default Snow Goose Bosque 2012

    A portrait of a snow goose - using the 2x extender with a 500mm lens. Taken on the 2012 BAA Bosque ITP. Hardly taken any images since returning back to Aus in January.

    1D MK4, 500mm + 2x ext, 1/1600 @ 10, 400 ISO. Manual mode. Tripod.

    Nicely exposed and good details in the whites. With the soft light and the sweet catchlight it is a very attractive image. I love the water drops on the head and body. TFS.

    I love portraits, and the water droplets are a great touch. It looks a little cool to me, but then we're so excited by warm light, maybe we've come to expect it. Also the contrast is soft. The only part of the histogram touching the right wall appears to be the water droplets. You might want to explore more contrast and see what you think. It would bring out more detail in the feathers.

    Image quality is outstanding for 1000mm! Nice exposure too. The water droplets add a lot to the photo.

    This was taken late morning - 10.36am - at Bosque - just before heading back to Motel for nap ready to return in the afternoon. So light was not the warm light like it was at 7.00am

    I found that manual focus gave me better results that the auto. Centre point focused on eye and recomposed. Goose was very still.
