Nice Mike. Prey item...skink?...really adds to it.

Looks like a lizard to me. it was great timming!
Thank You

WOW!
I wonder if it's a little too warm -- just a little? Sometimes reducing a color cast will bring out even more apparent detail.

I will go back and play around with it.

Sweet image. Excellent low shooting angle. Very nice flight pose, and with the lizard...really good!

Have to agree with Dianne about being a little warm looking...easy fix to experiment with.
But love the spread wings and bright eyes, and of course the lizard in beak is great { probably taste better with garlic }

Great wing position, fanned tail, shooting angle, detail and the lizard in the beak adds a lot, Mike.

Wing spread, light, prey item, angle in frame all very nice. Would love to see it a bit larger.

Perfect, Mike! Love the wingspan and prey item. I've been to Cape Coral and your color seems ok to me. There is a greenish, yellow to the area, especially in warm light. (From the grass)

Very well done Mike. I've been to Cape Coral many times, and never succeeded in getting an action shot like this. It must have required great patience. Good sharpness, great pose, and good light.

Mike, great image in sweet light. Love the sharpness of the eyes and head, the wing spread, and the low angle shooting. The lizard caps this off nicely.

excellent light pose, details and the prey item takes it to the top. It's best to post 1024 pixels to shows the details better

Great action and low angle. I agree it may be just a little warm or oversaturated. Check out my last post, I had the same situation as you and I liked the suggestions and solution

Nicely done mike! I'll be headed down there in about a month and a half and hope to get some nice shots of these guys. I may send you a PM later down the road for some tips if you don't mind.

Super image and light position, Michael, and the prey really brings it up a notch and you can see it so well. Yellow may be a little hot. Please share if this was baited. While we don't judge at BPN, we ask that you divulge whether your images are baited, and I would venture a guess this one appears to be.

Baited? No... How does it appear to be baited? The owl flew accross the road and came back with something. I was happy to get an image like this. Your right the yellow might be hot I will tone down a bit.
Thank You for your comments.

Your stunning image would not "appear" baited to most people, Mike. When you've been photographing a species for many years and become familiar with their behavior, you develop an eye for the probability of a baited image.

Terrific action captured, Mike. Very different from the standard Burrowing Owl shot. I'm not sure about the color cast, but thought just a hint of more contrast, or a few points of black, might make it pop a little. Great shot.
