    Default Horned Grebe.

I got up very early (4:15 AM) and drove to Toronto to shoot some waterbirds.
By the time I hit the shore some very dedicated people were already leaving the spot.
One time I would like to make it there still in the dark and get the shots at the first light just like those people.
    Thanks for looking.

Worth getting up - love the water drops and calm blue water. Wish for slight head turn towards us -just a tiny bit.

    Agree with both previous comments.
I might take a bit off the top to create a bit more of a pano.
    Love the light.
May I suggest staying the night in one of the waterfront hotels in Toronto? Have a nice meal with the wife and then you can get up at 5:00 AM and be on the waterfront 15 minutes later. You are happy and wife is happy- she doesn't have to cook supper!

    Hi Karl,

The ground pod has served you well. I really like the low angle, allowing for great separation between subject and bg. Water droplet on the beak is a nice touch.

I can't tell if it's my eyes or if the head looks a bit unsharp to me. I don't have much experience with these guys, but the rest of the bird looks great.

Beautiful Karl. Love the colors ,angle and of course the water drop. I would love to get one of these in breeding plumage. I got close last year.

Gorgeous image Karl. Love the light quality, very nice shooting angle, plumage, water beads, and water drip off the bill.
The calm water is a thing of beauty.

Hi Karl, excellent low perspective, and I really like the light in this. The droplets all over the grebe add interest, and the droplet on the end of the bill puts this over the top. Love the colours on the head, and your repost does look better.

So that was you and your wife, you where to my right and she was on my left. If I would have know that was you I would have introduced myself.

The Durham boys left no more than 5 minutes after I got there... I think it was my cologne or maybe luck of that made them leave.

Anyway great shot Karl, love the calm water and water beads.

Chiming in a bit late but wanted to throw my two cents in. Great shot. The angle and the pose are very nice as is the red eye. Love the water beads. Nice one!
