Finished up my SW Florida tour and got this opportunity with the osprey fishing on the Sanibel causeway. I had the camera preset as I parked the truck and was able to rip off about 24 frames of the catch. this is the frame right after the osprey just started to come out of the water. Shot with the Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 at 1/2500 sec. at f/6.3 at ISO 800.
Great action shot with beautiful exposure and detail. Nice HA and the eye is nice and sharp. Only wish would be the flounder at a better angle. Since you fired off so many shots, you probably have a few with the fish showing its broad side. Nice work.
That fish is having a bad day. Great action captured - Like the full stretch of the wing and you realise how much effort it must take to get out of the water with fish in feet.
Great frame with the flounder just coming out of the water. Nice head angle and wing position. Glad you pulled off the causeway and parked before taking the shot.
Roman, excellent actions captured here...love the raised wings, nice eye contact, splash...that is one skillful bird, held the fish so nicely in it's talons...
This is wonderful Roman,
I agree it seems to need a bit of CW rotation.
I love that huge wing extension. Fish is great.
How did you know he was going to get the fish?
Gail
Thanks all! Gail.....right before osprey dive they hover and then dive while tucking their wings back for entry. They (3) were just gliding along the shore looking into the shallows. once they stop and hover in one spot.....they usually dive...so I knew it was coming. I got the whole sequence from plunge into water (just missed the entry like I wanted) to taking it out. They struggle at first to get out.....and yes David.....I have him when he repositioned the fish for more of a profile and may post it eventually.
Lovely wing position in this and sharp as one could hope for. Love the splashes and impressed that a bird can spot a well camouflaged fish such as a Flounder from the air...nicely timed image for sure
Fantastic shot. Sweet light, great detail and sharpness, you must be really close to have such a shot with the sigma 120-300! Taking photos of osprey catching fish is such great fun as these guys have very high success rate and unlike bald eagles, the osprey dive beneath the water to catch their fish, so give us a valuable second to catch the action when they haul the hush out of the water. Great capture!
