Shorebird wingstretches are one of my favorite avian photo ops. Here I got an nice curved pre-stretch wing position and a bit of a raised foot to add even more dynamics to the image. Taken during fall migration last year.

Canon 7D + 100-400L @400mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/1250s., f/8, ISO 400, natural light, handheld with elbows to the ground, one blade of grass touching the chest reduced in length, darkened pupil.

    Wow Daniel,
    This is really nice.
The exposure is perfect and the whites seem so soft and velvety.
Great low POV and like the pose very much. Love the colors in this one,
    Gail
I would clone that one blade of grass back a bit further to get rid of the dead tip.

Nice one Daniel! There is a white patch near the belly that looks a bit odd to me.....but an easy tweak to a fantastic image! You get more out of the 100-400 than anyone I know!!!

The stretch, raised foot and environment (Sand and veg) make this work for me - Like the subtle color transition in the BG with the head placed in the pastel blue. Whites are perfect. Sand on beak is a nice detail. Not sure if the patch referred to above is the bit just on the front of the chest just below the collar of brown neck feathers?

Love the pose, with raised foot and wing. I have a fondness for these little plovers, but have never seen one posing quite like this. Super low POV and habitat really add to the image. Exposure looks spot-on.

    That's a great shot Daniel,

Great exposure and detail and a very appealing pose. I love the BG but even more I really like the FG. This one came together very nicely and it one of my favorites from you in a while. Great work!

Beautiful capture ... nice light and clarity ... excellent exposure and detail!
Included habitat and the patch of blue are both nice bonuses.

Might consider moving the bird a bit more to the left in the frame if you have some extra image to work with.

Lovely! The row of plants lined up in (almost) the plane of focus is an unusual and pleasant touch.

Great pose, light and details, daniel. The low angle and the plants around the bird makes it special.

Excellent image in all regards. Enjoy the visual interest that the vegetation provides.
The subject seems larger in the frame that I'm used to seeing from your shorebird images...way to mix it up.

Hi Dan, great IQ, and love the overall light in this. Your usual low angle works well, together with the timing to get the slightly raised foot.

love the beautiful environment and background, as well as the pose,
the horizon looks little tilted to me (maybe its the uneven foreground)
