A follow-up to the other day's Laughing Gull Portrait. Same basic and unmistakable "gull" shape, but drastically different colours...both equally beautiful birds IMO. These guys are quite bright and pure white at this time of year!
Canon 7D + 100-400L @400mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/2500s., f/8, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, FF, minor bill clean-up via patch tool, the BG is water. Baited with bread.
Gorgeous portrait of a handsome specimen! Techs are spot in as usual and love that blue BG!
Nice in-camera comp ... could maybe trim just a tad off the top but also works well as is.
Dan, you always come up with interesting image of common bird...really loved this one for all the points mentioned by Mike...BG, exposure, and colors...TFS
Excellent portrait, Daniel. Love the beautiful eye and plumage.
These guys (and the GBHE) were my first avian subject back in the eighties since I could shoot them with my 70-210 Tamron.
I still like to shoot gulls.
What would you think about trying to bring out just a little more detail in the whites? Something like NIK CEP Detail Extractor might make a subtle difference without looking overworked.
Gorgeous bg color, sweet light and perfect exposure.
This comp would've been a bit of a challenge for me. I think I would've moved the bird a bit more to the left and would have cropped slightly off the top.
That eye ring is beautiful.
