Although not as exciting or mystical as owls I have a soft spot for gulls. Yes, really! One of my favorite subjects to photograph...especially during breeding season when their plumage is exceptionally fresh and beautiful, but at anytime they offer great photo ops. Here is a Laughing Gull from Florida taken last April.
Canon 7D + 100-400L @320mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/320s., f/10, ISO 400, lightened the pupil a bit via dodge tool, 3 white specks on the black face patched out.
Nice one
The details all over are fantastic, however what strikes my eye are the details on the beak, its fantastic
Looks like you were very close to it, at 320mm this is amazing
love it
The feather detail is superb.
Absolutely tack sharp with nice, soft light.
I like the way you cropped this as well.
f 10 is the magic # for these intimate closeup shots,
Gail
Great portrait - love the sooty blacks of the head with those little white tufts above and below the eye. Detail in the whites is spot on. The slight head turn towards the camera. Overall a fine portrait. Pretty looking bird as well.
Always stoked with fine detail shots Daniel, this one fits that criteria perfectly, the light on the beak is eye catching and I like that you can see right through his nostril { weird huh ? } The soft toned backdrop compliments the grey tones on the bird perfectly
Great light quality, exposure work, and perfect dof.
The bird is looking quite relaxed here, almost like it's getting ready to close that eye....
Plumage/bill coloration are sweet.
