Default Make Great Egret in breeding plumage

Taken at the Venice Rookery, Florida back in late Feb or early March. Nikon D200, 300mm f4 AF-S Nikkor with 1.4X Nikkor converter.

    Thanks for looking! :)

Great pose! I think the bird could stand to be brightened a little, and I might remove the leaf in front of the neck.

Hi Scott !!! Excellent display image and did very well with the light !!! This is what we normally want to find on top of the rookery lined up with the Australian pines on the bg !!!! btw the light here seems to help out with the bg !!!

I like this a lot. I read the comments re making it brighter. However, the brightest areas already seem s bright as you could make them without blowing them out. As Alfred mentioned the BG is just right. Only small nit I would put forth is that I wish there were a tad more room to the left so the Egret were not so centered.

That would have been helped with a bit of fill flash. Great pose and bg, could loose some from the right.

I wasn't suggesting to brighten everything; I was talking about some dodging of select areas. Kind of like this.

    Nice edit Doug!

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

Alfred, now that i think back i do remember the pines down in the far corner. That would have worked great. I do believe i have photos of GBH's with the pines in the bg.

Fabs, i've never used fill flash for shooting birds. in fact to be brutally honest, i have little experience shooting birds at all! i do know that i enjoy the challenge very much, especially way down south in Florida! i've never seen so many large birds in all my life! it was fantastic!

Ed, i agree with your comment of the bird being too centered. i think i will post another for comment, this one with some room to breath.

    Thanks again for the critique!

    SG
