Default New Years Day White Pelican

One benefit of sleep and sobriety on New Years Eve (a relatively new concept to me) is that it's easier to get out in the kayak early in the a.m. I found this White Pelican, with Merrit Island, FL in the background. I'd prefer the bird turning slightly towards me, but as I positioned the kayak to the right, he would slowly move to keep our distance and perspective the same. Not wanting to scare him off this is the best angle I could get. Nikon D300, 300 f/4 @ f/5.6, 1/3200, iso 400, -0.3 ev on a bright morning. I left the tiny feathers on the end of the bill. Thanks to Artie and Don Lacy and for their advice on preparing an image...sizewise...for posting here.

When I first saw this, the word "peaceful" came to mind. You have wonderful details in your feathers, lovely light and I love the environmental feel of Florida in your BG. I would maybe considering toning down the tree trunks just a tad.

beautiful colors and light. I wonder if there is any more detail to be obtained from those blown whites.

I love the composition here, and the BG tree line is what makes it for me...subject is also well placed within the frame. I agree with your self-critique about body angle of the pelican, but you did try. Agree some whites are blown...worth a reprocess during raw conversion.
