Thinking of our beaches and hoping they are still suitable for nesting shorebirds after Superstorm Sandy. Here's one from late August. I like the energy in this image.

Light quality is excellent. This is an exciting image because of that breaking wave in the background.
I do wish for a bit more space on top so the "complete" wave could be seen, with a sliver of that blue
hued water going all the way across on the top of the frame...you were perfectly positioned for this
    image. Very well done.

    Hi Grace,
I am not loving this one.
I have come back to it several times and I think the reason is the lack of catchlight and detail in the eye and head.
The light and pose are spot on and I see where you are coming from when you say you like the energy. I like the water droplets and splash as well.

Gail, I think that a larger version would solve your issues. I haven't posted this one before for the reasons that you mentioned. There is light in the eye and plenty of detail in the head. Was afraid it would get trashed here for that reason. But I felt that this one is more about the big picture.

I love this scene but my first thought was that I wanted to see a larger version b/c I Think larger, I would see a catch light. Love the wave and the splash and how you put the bird in the lower portion of the frame. IT's a new perspective, and it works extremely well.

I did not like it first but had an other look and now I like it.
I found out based on previous personal experience that many times the ones you don't like at first have a real potential not to be bored with later.
I think if you sharpen it a little more (the whole image) to bring out the water droplets and the splast, it would be great.
However, I like it as is, Grace. I understand what you say about the big picture and I fully agree.
