This Brown-hooded Parrot (Pionopsitta haematotis), photographed in Costa Rica, was aggressively displacing another parrot that is just out of the frame on the left. 1D 4, 500 mm f/4 +1.4X, 1/640, f/8, ISO 800, tripod, natural light. The faint streaks in the background are OOF palm leaves. I cleaned up the beak a bit, darkened lighter areas of the background and perch, cloned over some bare spots on the perch, toned down the saturation on some of the background greens, and ran nr on the background. All comments are welcome and appreciated.
Nice composition Steve and the bird is in focus almost to the tip of its tail. I also like the (apparently windblown) strands of moss extending down from the perch. I love the BKGR texture created by the palm fronds. As I recall the scene, both the bird and the BKGR were a bit darker, especially the bird with a bit more contrast. Overall, a well-captured image.
I would say the raised foot in the frame adds a lot of interest to the frame.
About the perch i have said it before that i am completely in love with it,
The colors on the bird look nice and beautifully exposed to display the various shades . Nice one over all
Brilliant Steve - just brilliant, the pose is really eye catching the exposure is spot on, I like everything, can't fault it.
Purely as a consideration you have quite deliberately got a non intrusive background, my only second thought is that the bird lives in the jungle and such clear backgrounds though possible are a tad unlikely. Maybe you have some other images that could introduce some very faint disturbance in the background to prevent such a homogeneous appearance.??
Excellent image of parrot.Wonderful color scheme,BG colors are very nicely complimenting the colors of parrot.
Love the leaning pose with raised foot.nice interesting perch, lights and composition.
Hi Steve. I wish IO had brought something like this back from Costa Rica. The oerch is great , nice clean bg and I really like the mving pose. If this were my image I would consider adding some depth to the head and face area just a little then I would print frame and hang it on the wall :)
