You are close to really nailing one and this is well done,..lots to like here. Fantastic mating activity, muted background, lovely colors , whites are in check and most importantly ,the picture has a good feel!
How do we make a good image better,..there are a few subtle things I might do to take this over the top: lighten the eyes on the taller subject, remove (cloning tool) the distracting line at the bottom edge and remove the thin green layer from the top. This is really good Ian,.what a great moment and thanks to you I am there!
Oh,..nice field technique using a tripod with 700MM focal length and working a subject,... great picture!
