Lilac Breasted Roller
Photographed in the Samburu National Reserve, Kenya last week. These are amazingly beautiful birds.
Canon 1DX and 500 f4 IS lens resting on a bean bag, Manual exposure 1/2000 @f4, iso 3200, cropped from the center of the frame. Processing note: a few extra branches were cloned out below the bird.

Tim:
A beauty for sure, the neutral bg shows him off well.
Just a bit of noise creeping into the darker areas. For personal taste, I might give him just a little more room to breath, esp on the left.
I might consder removing the yellow clump right at the lower frame edge.
Cheers

Such a lovely subject. I'd definately loosen up the frame. Is this a big crop? I see less feather detail than expected.

Great bird, colours, BG, curved pose. I'd add back some canvas, which would also help with the IQ that seems a bit stretched due to cropping. There is also an OOF element at the tip of the bill that needs taken care of. Looks like you had to deal with some back-lighting here?

Thank you....
Thank you all, for your comments. I wanted to show the bird as close as possible and I think I got just a bit carried away on the tight crop. It's funny that after I posted the image I was thinking that the tight crop was something that others would probably point out.
This image was shot at iso 3200, and it was a substantial crop (about 1/3 of the original frame if my memory is correct). There would have been more detail with a closer shot uncropped, but that simply was not possible. Under the circumstances, I am impressed with the images the 1DX delivers in spite of these limitations. You gotta love it being able to shoot at iso 3200, with with only minimal noise. After using the 1DX, it's not much fun picking up my 1D Mark 4 anymore, and I never thought I'd be saying that.
