    Default Mechanical Ephemera

I know this is a little strange and it was an unintentional consequence and totally not reproducible. I was doing night photography at the University of Tampa and had been doing in camera HDR images with the 5D Mk III with relatively long exposures. As I was leaving I figured I'd get a shot of the minarets. I had forgotten it was on HDR (or that I had a long exposure) and hit the button. It took the first image and I started to put the camera away while it was slowly taking the second and third image. This is what the combined HDR image looked like. I tried to do it again and nothing came anywhere close. I like it in a "weird dream" kind of way. Since then I've tried it on different objects at night and have gotten some images that I like (maybe I'm weird!). I upped the brightness a little bit in Nik Viveza.
Thanks for looking. Hopefully someone out there won't think I've lost my mind

This is surreal looking. It makes me think of Clockwork Orange and a future that breaks apart or stays whole. Those wild lines in the bkgd are space-age looking. Who thought a mechanical hic-up could make one think of a political & cultural statement?!

BTW, I have also done that with the HDR on my 5D Mark III and got some odd images with pieces of birds all over the place!

Hi, Nancy, yes it is very "Clockwork Orange-ish" I accidentally did it to a kid on a little tractor yesterday at a car show and it wasn't pretty - body parts everywhere

I think this is perfect for the theme. Good title. Amazing colors and subjects. Love how the minarete is breaking apart. the repetition, the perspective! Though unintentional, well done! I'd change the title to include it in the weekly theme category.

Funny, I also immediately thought of A Clockwork Orange but A Clockwork Orange meets Tim Burton. A little too out there for my taste but interesting to see.

I think you're on to something and should pursue it, further. It could be the Post-it Notes of OOTB processing (Post-it Notes were the result of an accidental outcome in a development gone wrong). It must be something related to the in-camera HDR that leads to the flying pieces. The pieces might not always be a good outcome, but the multiple exposure effect with a combination of a stationary and moving camera could be interesting.

Cheryl, I think it's great and a perfect example of a "happy accident" or serendipity. When I first looked at the thumbnail, I though "wow, I can't wait to see how she did this". It looks like you have invented a new way to be creative with hardware, really cool! I'm going to have to give that a try...

Cheryl, I know - I can't wait! I finally will have two cameras for different purposes, and neither one has to be considered a "backup", as I will have the lowly 1D Mark IV and the 5D Mark III!
