Taken from garden hide. Tripod head, Canon 7D Canon 500mm f4 L IS ISO 640, 1/7-- sec f7.1
This heron I have to confess is unwelcome, he keeps popping in to the garden to see if he can snatch a few tiddlers or frogs from my pond. I was photographing finches and dunnocks and he came in, I had the 500mm lens on and had left the other camera with 100-400 in the house. I could not get the whole of the heron in one frame no matter what I tried. I remembered Artie's stitch he posted recently so I thought it would be a good idea to see if I could get the whole of the heron in one image.
I appreciate the background is less than ideal but there's not much I can do about it, I have reduced the highlights a bit, I am wondering if anyone can see the join on the heron?
All comments welcome.
Very good job on the stitch. I run into this type of situation many times having to try to get the subject in the frame and then finally opting for a portrait or a creative crop. Cant see the joint. Going to have to try this trick. Otherwise the shot is nice and I dont mind the BG because it is your beautiful garden, maybe try to remove the black box at the birds chest. I know its hard due to the single feathers in front of it. Nice work
Hi Jon, love the alert pose from the heron, and Im jealous that you have them in your garden , I have to drive kilometers to get one. I understand he's there for the wrong reasons. Great job with the stitching, but if I had to guess, I would say halfway up the neck.
Thanks very much everyone for the comments. Stu the join was immediately to the left of the black shoulder plumage. I had to improvise the top left and bottom right quadrants of the image.
Jonathan:
This is absolutely superb image with lovely backdrop/environment having nice ferns, rock with lichen, beautiful green grass, yellow flowers...everything has given very nice 3D effect to the image.
Love the alert pose of heron, colors nice details, lights, great composition with no trace of pp work.
