    Default Diving Bald Eagle

Hi everyone. It's been a busy photographic month for me; 2 weeks in Costa Rica followed by a week in Alaska with Alan Murphy's Bald Eagle workshop. Since the workshop participants have been doing such a great job posting images from Costa Rica, I decided to go with a Bald Eagle from Homer. The 1Dx performed flawlessly in both Costa Rica and Alaska. The AF was astonishingly good for flying eagles; far and away the best autofocusing body Canon has ever made.

Canon 1Dx, 300mm f/2.8, f/5, 1/4000, ISO 400 (a luxury, because most of my time was spent at ISO 1600 and higher due to low light conditions), manual exposure, hand held
Upcoming Workshops: Bosque del Apache 2019, Ecuador 2020 (details coming soon)

Hi Doug, excellent exposure, and I do like the flight pose with the forward wing posiion. Good DOF from wing tip to wing tip, and overall, the sharpness is spot on. Although against a darker BG, the eagle still stands out well enough.

Looks like you had a productive month.

Excellent image, as always. I like the angle of flight on this one.
Doug, did you give any thought to lightening the background to give a little more separation, particularly at the (bird's) right P5-P7?
Sounds like a really productive month for you.

Fantastic and powerful pose, and I love the way the head and tail jump out at you due to how it blends in with the background. The details in those brown feathers is awesome.

Excellent image Doug. I agree with the others on shooting details. Also, you have framed it well with just the right amount of canvas. Have you thawed out yet?

That's just awesome man. The yellow bill pops nicely, and the BG is very nice. I do wish the tail feathers were not angled down as much as they are. You've really had quite a productive winter!!
