Purchased Robert O'tooles cd a few weeks ago. This was my first effort at quick masking. There was a large pelican behind this one and to the left. I know I fell short of the experts here but I can see promise down the road. Still got to figure out how you get clean lines along wings and things such as the tip of a bill.

As far as the image goes I know the HAP will get on me and you can't see the other wing but it was a good photo to try quick masking with.

    Hi Mike,
Its a very nice composition with great colors, the details on the wings are good. Like that take off position. I do see a slight section on the tip of the wing as you mentioned. Over all you did good...:) As far as the head angle goes, well; your next one will be better...:D

It's a nice first attempt at quick masking. I was just commenting on another thread that I'm going to sit down and learn the art of the quick mask this weekend.

    Hi Mike,

The image looks nice and sharp and the colors are nice.

You can use QM to select the face and the tail to darken those hot areas. Also the bird is flying a little downhill :) and needs some CW rotation. But the big issue isnt really HA but that the bird is flying away. Having the bird fly across or into the field of view is much preferred.

For first time use of a QM the results are good but as you mentioned there are some artifacts. You can clean these up by using a clean edge, just the edge, from a clean area or working with a finer brush.

Robert and the others have covered it all but I congratulate you on the great timing in this image. Look forward to your future posts Mike.
