    Default Gnarled and craggy

I like to think if this Wood Stork as a older man with a gnarled and craggy face. This guy arrived at our back door in Florida whilst I was cooking some very aromatic meatballs and spaghetti. I am sure he could smell it and was there for a handout. He never showed up again so he wasn't an habitual begger.

A couple of notes about the processing- first I thought the image cried out for a B/W conversion so I did this in Ps with a B/W Adjustment layer. To really focus on the face and neck I decided to crop off the bill, which I did in camera. I am of course interested to know what people think.

I'm usually not a fan of B&W for nature photos, but this works for me. I also like the crop. Sometimes we don't need to see the whole picture to appreciate the interesting parts. I hope that makes sense.

I like the crop John, it emphasizes the texture, the eye and the cragginess! B/W works here I think.

Interesting perspective, John. I like what you have done here. The B&W works very well. Details and textures are good and I really that eye.

Lovely! What a great idea to go to B/W. Is there any detail to be brought out in the whites? I long to see just a little bit there.

Hi Diane- Nik Color Efex Detail Extractor would probably work. I'll give it a shot.
