    Default Green Jay on Huisache

    Attached Images Attached Images

From my trip to south TX a few weeks ago.
The minute I saw a Huisache in bloom, I knew I wanted to get a Green Jay on it. Took a while, but I was pleased when one finally landed and posed.
This is from a setup (using techniques from Alan Murphy's excellent ebooks)

    1D4, 500mm, hide, tripod
    1/500, f 6.3, iso 1000, manual flash

    All comments appreciated
    Thanks

PS: as I'm posting I realize I should have removed the nub on the perch at the right edge :/

Sweet shot indeed...lovely soft colors and what a beautiful subject as well, I do like the composition and choice of branch/perch and ever so smooth backdrop.

First class Sid everything spot on, this could have been one taken by Alan himself - that is intended as a big compliment!

Killer image. The jay appears to be looking over at the flowers admiring your set up. Good work on the set up and patience to make this happen. Many photogrpahers don't realize how difficult set up photography really is.

Fantastic image Sidharth! Perfect set-up, comp, BG. I agree with the"nub" you mention, but man this is a picture-perfect photo :-)

Hi Sid, you should do more setups. I really like the overall settings with the bright colours in the image, and you have also exposed the Jay so well. Great DOF throughout the image, and you couldnt have chosen a better BG to complement the Jay. Great work.

I love this shot of one of my favorite birds! I'll have to try a set-up one of these days, because they are so elusive unless at a feeder. Nice job!

I just have to comment on this one, despite a lot has been said. Beautiful set up; the colors are so nice on the bird, BG and flowers. Very well done and a big congratulations.

You did a really nice job here, Sidharth.
I got Alan's book and tried some set ups in my yard, a total failure.
They are much harder than they would appear.
This is just great, the bird, pose and perch and foliage top notch.
I would maybe brighten the catchlight a bit.

Fantastic work! The perch is indeed an excellent compliment to the bird, and the bird itself is a beauty! Love it's pose, too. Only suggestion, I guess, would be to maybe find a contrasting background if you have the opportunity again. The current background is almost the same color as the bird, which kind of diminishes the impact of the whole setup. BTW, Excellent execution of Alan's tips! Looks like one of his own photos! :)

Thank you all for the encouraging comments! Much appreciated.

Jon R., I did get a couple other keepers against contrasting backgrounds (and different perches) that I might post later. Thanks.

Beautiful shot and great set up work..Im sure it itnt as easy as ot sounds. Techs look great and the perch and the smooth BG round off the components for a fine shot, well done.
