    Default Black-crowned Night Heron portrait

I found this guy hanging out at a local pond. I went with the metered exposure here (evaluative mode) as I felt that there was a good balance of light and dark areas, which turned out to be correct for the very soft light of late afternoon. Very tiny crop from the top and left for composition.

Excellent shot, Kerry! Can't believe you got this guy in the open! Lovely tones and composition. Red eye is always an attraction with these night herons.

    Kerry,

Greetings. Wow. That's really a super shot. The background looks great (though if I look closely there looks to be posterization... pinkish - top left & right corners, the right one running to the beak, may be sizing artifact). I like how the texture of the background compliments the texture of the feather detail. Good show!

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

Fabulous Kerry. I'm a sucker for portraits like this. I just love the way the detail shows so well. I really like the dreamy BG too.

This is one desirable 'red-eye' Kerry! Great portrait with nice techs and detail.

Hey Kerry, this is a beautiful portrait of one of my favorite herons. Detail is outstanding and that red eyes burns through the viewer.

I really like the catch light on the edge of the pupil. It reminds me of a solar eclipse.
