    Default Green Hermit

I photographed this female Green Hermit hummingbird (Phaethornis guy) in Costa Rice. I liked the way it has contorted its body to get its long, curved beak into the narrow, straight flower. I used a 4-flash setup set up by Greg Basco and Doug Brown. 1D 4, 70-300mm at 166 mm, 1/200, f/14, ISO 320, tripod, live-view manual focus on the flower, cable release, background is a print of OOF rainforest vegetation. I removed an extra catchlight from the eye. All comments are welcome and appreciated.

I am so happy to finally see a picture from your CR trip and what a beauty it is! The position of the HB is interesting and unique. The BG works very nicely. Congrats, Steve.

Lovely -- great "pose," focus and detail, and wonderful balance of the flashes. Very natural looking.

Great "frozen action" with that flash setup and great photo. Plant looks like a Psammisia species.

That's a perfect flower for a Green Hermit. Excellent detail, and very natural-looking lighting.
