Default Mum!.....there's a man looking at me !

First time I've ever encountered a juvenile Butcherbird, likely his first venture from the nest ,and could of been easily overlooked in the middle of this bush as it blended in very well. Difficult to get a clear shot and this was the only angle to get one....rather liked the upward facing look he adopted searching for his Mum, who eventually came to the rescue up and led him away, but managed two shots before he left.

Canon 7D + 500 f4.....f4.5, 1/640, ISO 640, no flash fired....hand held shot and dull overcast skies....small twig removed on right hand side of the body, small crop, selective sharpen and noise reduction

    Phil:
Beautiful image of juvenile Butcherbird in habitat.I like the upward facing pose with nice eye contact and details.
Composition looks beautiful.Would toned down the bright patch just below the RUC.

    Regards,
    Satish.

Like Karl, all those wonderful details in the bird's belly really stood out immediately. I like the pose and I think you did very well with the difficult angle and environment. It came together quite nicely.

Love the perch and the BG Phil! Must have been fun to watch this young fella. I do wish the head angle was more parallel to the sensor, but considering all this looks OK as is too...

Hi Phil, You certainly did capture excellent detail, especially around the head and bill. Good DOF on the bird, and love the olive green BG behind him.

    Nice find Phil.
Good IQ and I like the splash of pink on the face and the lines in the bark of the perch,

I wanted to add that this is a marvelous behavior shot...you can tell he is looking off to his left for a mom or dad. Great sharpness and light too Phil with good feather detail.

Hi Phil. Cool shot! The pose goes nicely with your story, good sharpness and detail all around, and the bird is nicely separated from the habitat - yet we can still tell what the habitat consists of. Well done!
