Wow, what a shot, Karl. Excellent exposure with lovely details through out. Pose is killer and I love the snow on the perch. Love it.

That's a nice chickadee Karl. The lighting is really beautiful. F-stop provides just the right depth of field. As your eye fixes on the eye and head, then follows the body down and to the left, the slightly soft tail releases your eye to view the perch etc. Love the perch too.

What an excellent chickadee image with a fine complimentary bg and the bird sharp and well exposed.

Wow that is a perfect exposure if ever I saw one! Great pose and perch super background, the snow on the perch also provides added interest.
Being really critical now, is there a sharpening mask, if so does it dully extend under the chin to include his "whiskers", given the detail in the dark plumage on top of his head I would have expected just a little more under his chin.

    Thanks, Jonathan.
Thanks you all for your comments.
I usually (almost always) select the bird and the perch for sharpening. Sometimes only the bird, which is not the best as Daniel pointed out once.
In this case, I'm afraid, only the bird was selected wich did not include the tiny whiskers.

This is one heck of an image, Karl, for all the reasons already mentioned above. It's just so pleasing to the eye.

Lovely image, the BG and the details are amazing, the snow adds a lot to the image
i may wish the left part of the perch being in the frame rather than cutting out of it, this for me may take it way up , however there are flip sides of including that as it may broaden the frame and get less of the bird in the frame than you wish, but then in a imperfect world that we live in
