Here's one from my outing on the Hooptie Deux a year ago. Wish I were there now. Fading light at the end of the day called for the high ISO. Looks like a ski jumper just before landing.

Very nice shot. Thank you for posting this. Gives me confidence that I can go higher with ISO on my D7000

Never pushed above 1000 as was worried about too much noise but you seem to not have a problem

I like the incoming pose, open bill, soft light and composition. Very nice image Bill!

I like your analogy about a ski jumper...how true! The pinks go well against the pale BG. Open bill is a plus. A bit of noise is starting to creep into the image...but at that high ISO it looks acceotable indeed.

    Bill:

Makes me long for the Hooptie as well. Like the pose, comp, BG. I would be tempted to raise the curve just slightly, as I felt it make the bird pop a bit more.

    Cheers

Bill, loved how the pink stands out against the BG. Very good DOF coverage, pose and the subject angle. Iq looks great for that ISO. we can see some noise but its not too damaging and in print, it may not even show.

Cool pose and muted BG works nicely here ... open bill is a nice touch!

I like the pose and the muted colors.
I would add a couple of points of blacks to the neutrals in selective coloring to make the image less flat.
I see a bit of noise but still really good for such a high ISO,

Love the pink against the grey. The open bill and that one drop of water really add a lot to this image.

Thanks everyone. I tried several versions before reposting: one by tweaking the levels, and another by adding some points of black to the neutrals. The results were about the same. This one is the version where I added some black in selective color per Gail's suggestion. I appreciate the suggestions. Not much I could do to the noise without losing what detail there was.
