I shot this today, caught a break in the rain. Didn't have any sun but went out anyway. Shot using the 7D, 300 @ F/4.5, ISO 800, 1/3200. HH. C&C greatly appreciated.

I would crop off some of the bottom, blur the background some., and do a curves adjustment to get more separation between the background and the bird. The mallard looks good. Really like the wing position.

    Don,

The mallard looks good the busy background is the opportunity. I might crop the dark line next to the bill and add a small catch light to the eye. I agree with Jeannean regarding the negative space on the bottom of the frame,..keep things in balance and ensure the focus is on the beautiful subject. Might lighten the body too with dodge and burn or levels.

    Keep em coming!

FYI,..There is a thread in the Education and Tutorial Forum on adding a catch light.

Agree with Jeannean and Jeff... less on the bottom and dark "thingy" in front of the bill could go away. You do have a slight eye-catch going.... could be pumped up a tad. Overall, great BIF shot of a pretty girl..... I really like how the bit of blue on the left wing is visible.... takes your eye to the bird.
