    Default Bald Eagle - Cheyenne

    Hi There

Shot of Bald Eagle "Cheyenne" at HCT on one of my rare times not trying to capture shots of feathered bullets in flying display.

The Eagles are generally in shade which makes the contrast between light and dark a little easier to deal with, as I know some shots that Bill Foxworthy has posted of Bald Eagles have had a tough time with both shadow and highlight detail...but I liked them nonethless.

Shot with my standard lens...the 500 F4 and stopped down to F11 which I do about once every 6 months or so.:p

Underexposed by 1 stop from what the meter was saying in order not to blow the highlights as you can see the scene is mostly very dark browns and black, and shooting at camera meter reading would have blown the highlights.

Handheld at a borderline 1/160th you gotta love IS

I love this one.....beautiful detail.....great DOF and a wonderful black BG. This is terrific. You need to try for more portraits when you get a chance.....and think "F/11 is good.....F/11 is good"!!

Love the exposure and the details John! For a static subject with the right BG, I love f/11.

A very regal pose, good clean whites with lots of details and fine browns. Sharp eye and beak is a great plus.
