I am curious as to why this bird appears to have feathers with a greenish tint. Could it just be the light? Also, am I correct in calling it a female?

I would say yes to Female, Black-tailed Gnatcatcher, Julie. I am no expert but it looks right according to all my books. The eye ring, black tail and greenish tinge to back. I did a search of images in Bing for a female BT Gnatcatcher and one looks just like your image.
