    I shot this guy today HH. I couldn't help it even though he was right in my face. I used the 1D Mark IV, 300 + 2X TC, ISO 640, 1/3200, f/8.0 C&C greatly appreciated.

    Don, no need to apologize for hand-holding! There are some pretty successful bird photographers around (here) who only shoot handheld. You did a great job on the exposure, techs look great. Good detail and pose as well. You might want to sharpen the eye just a bit more. Well done!

    Don,

    This is more like it, just look at the beautiful head color. In my opinion there are three good opportunities in an image that define a subject (more than that,.. but talking in abstract form) color,..form and gesture. In this picture the color alone makes the shot work,..the purple head with yellow eye tell story,..the beauty of nature,..nice capture.

    Kerry is right, working the eye might help. There is something fantastic about a bird with a well lit sharp eye!
