From this morning at a Sandhill Crane nest in sw Florida. This bird, assumed to be the male, arrived to relieve the other from a long night of incubation. First job was to rearrange the eggs before sitting on them. Very nice setting.
Canon Mark IV, 500mm f/4L II +2.0x, ISO:800, f/8@1/320, Manual, AI Servo AF, evaluative, tripod. Cropped from left and right to make vertical. Clonned a couple of pieces of grass. All C&C welcome and appreciated.
Lighter grass distraction on the left aside Dan, this is very nice, loving the parental interaction, detail and quality of light is wonderful. I especially like the sheen and detail on the dorsal feathers
Hi Dan, I do like your low angle of capture, and well timed to capture the behaviour. Good DOF on the crane, and you have brought out the feather detail nicely. I agree with Dan K that cropping in from both sides will improve the comp, as Im finding this crop too squarish.
So glad you found such a super nest. You did very well working this image with a 2xTC and the sharpness and DOF on the SHC looks great. I am seeing a slight magenta cast on the bird which is an easy fix with a color balance layer. I can see this as a tigher crop to eliminate the distracting grasses on the left...or you can leave it as is b/c still a very pleasing image as is.
