I looked at this impressive b.i.f. picture before having read your introduction and I thought "Hey wait the light in the eye is wrong, it's funny, it's too big, the white circle is too perfect, something's up." I know, likely story, but there you have it. People don't like that "dead-eyes" look and will often add a catchlight and that's where the tricky business begins. Otherwise, I am enjoying this look at a fast-flying winterduck. Seeing as the water doesn't add much to this picture, I'd crop a slab off the bottom and a pinch off the top.

Cool pose with excellent exposure and detail. I like the comp and the water color. Yes it needed a catchlight and it is positioned nice, but maybe a little smaller. Well done.
Wonderful image, i like the pose of the approach, colour of the water, i wouldn't have noticed the catchlight if you hadn't put in the comment
nice image over all
Nicely done Dan, as sharp as one could hope for and loving the strong color, fine detail in droplets. I'm amazed you are able to get birds flying towards the camera...so I'm thinking you are likely dressing up as a female Duck or covering yourself in bread crumbs lol..Would not really have noticed the addition of a catch light, well done, but now it's mentioned I'd suggest it is a tad bright...maybe ?
Composition is killer! Water works well.... bright yellow-green on upper right might be a bit distracting. Agree with catch light comments.... perhaps just "graying it out" a bit would help? Question: Is there an odd shadow under the duck's breast? (from left foot to right upper-leg?)
