Another big highlight for me on my recent Ecuador trip was spending some time with this beautiful species of Mountain-Toucan. In all of my previous 9 months in Ecuador I had never seen this species so it was a real treat to have a pair hanging around one of the lodges that my group was staying at :-)

Now normally I would thing the foliage is a bit busy, but not in this shot, I think it works in nicely with the big billed Tucan. Wonderfully sharp and detailed and color to die for, the light is extra good and especially the nicely glassy and clear eye. OK, so if I was to be unnecessarily, and irrationally picky hehehe....I would suggest it is a slight shame the lower bill is not tack sharp as the rest of the bird....but ....arrrrgh.... it's a great shot
Stunning image of a beautiful bird! A real treat with the beak pose. I go back and forth somewhat on the leaves in the background, but as others mentioned it does give context. This one makes me want to hop on a plane for Ecuador immediately!
