Taken at Ding Darling NWR in January at the second pool on the left. I loved the "hair-do".

There was sidelight this early in the morning, so I used the shadows slider in LR 4.3 to bring up shadows on the right side. About a 50% crop. NR on BG and some sharpening and minimal NR on bird. I do have the entire reflection in the frame, and was considering a vertical crop as well.

Canon 1D Mark IV, ISO 1600
    500 mm f/4L IS, 1/640 sec. @ f/8.0
    Evaluative +1/3 EV
    AV, AI Servo AF
    Back-button Focusing
    tripod and gimbal head
    No flash

C/C always welcome. Thanks for viewing.

lovely image, the crest on the head makes it surely interesting
You had a opportunity to get the complete reflection and it would have looked beautiful too.

Gorgeous capture I think it would be beautiful with the whole reflection, vertical format.

OK, I have to respond to my own post here, because: I misidentified this bird as a reddish egret, when in fact it's a little blue heron in breeding plumage. How embarrassing. I don't suppose there's a way to change the title?
