    Default Breakfast for One

During my morning shoot at this Wetlands south of Johannesburg back in January, the Squacco Herons gave me plenty of opportunities. A little while ago, I posted an image of a Squacco just about to swallow a frog. This image is of one having just caught one, and he was just about to fly off to a perch to eat it. Taken early morning from a hide. A lower angle wasnt possible.

    Hi Stuart,
I really like the colors in this. Image pops off the monitor.
I see a need for a bit of CW rotation.
The exposure is spot on and great action captured. Love the raised wings and foot.
If I had one wish it would be that the frog was more identifiable as a frog. Looks like a bunch of vegetation to my eye.
    A keeper for sure,
    Gail

Excellent pose, great details, Stuart. The greenish vegetation covered water sets the bird off very well. Love the wing position, raised foot and the food item in the beak adds interest. Great overall image.

neat pose and I like the visible foot. Do I see a blue cast or are the wings slightly blue?

Thanks a stack for the feedback everyone.

Gail, I used so many points to try and get it as level as possible.

Cheryl, The wings are not normally blue. I dont see a blue cast.

Love the action captured; raised white wings against the green bg; raised foot; and nice detail in the head. Well done.

Stu, I think this is even better than the previous one. I really like the timing and the light colours and detail is really outstanding. The subject stands out perfectly from the background and I note the slightly smaller than usual aperture because you were closer.

All works for me, great action, clarity and color, the angle is not noticeably high imo......hard to make out what it is he's racing off with and would love to of been able to see it is actually a frog

Cool shot Stuart. Nice details and exposure. I like the action and the raised foot and wings. The green veg BG is nice too. I too wish we could see that it was a frog, we will take your word for it :) Nice capture
