    Default Great Gray Owl Intensity...

    Attached Images Attached Images

From a few weeks back, I love the intense look on the face of this flying beauty.

Canon 1D MK IV (borrowed) + 100-400L @275mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/2000s., f/6.3, ISO 800, cropped for comp (about 70% FF), a few brighter tree trunks toned down, a grass blde touchnig the tail cloned out, subject baited.

I like the hunters stare, IQ, setting, exposure, wing/tail position and composition. Excellent image Daniel!

Fantastic Dan, super shot great pose and wonderful detail. I also like the few tall grasses in the foreground.
On second view do you think that the yes are just a little too bright? Quite possibly not I have not seen one of these wonderful birds in the field.
What do you regards bait, do you put a dead mouse out and you hide behind some camo?

    Daniel:

Mr. Intensity for sure! Tremendous sense of eye contact and connection here. Nicely composed and the level of detail in the BG is just right for me.

    Cheers

Love the intensity of this one and the inclusion of the environment. My fav detail though is the stray feather!

One great photo after another of these guys.
I think I like this one the most so far, it really pops and I like the PP on the Bg trees and the grass in front.

This is another doozy of a shot Daniel.
I like the "V" line of the owl.
Nice and low view. Must be what the mouse sees just before...
    Very dramatic.
I really like the BG in this series.
    Love that raised feather.

Great setting for the hunt and fantastic pose and details, Daniel. Marina, Randy and others said before that the picture implies great intensity and they were right. This is how I see it.

Am I correct to assume this bird was baited? 275mm is pretty short in my entirely " wild " experience with owls!

    Either way, superbly executed image!

    Congrats.

Another great capture! The wing positions are very good. Nicely placed within the frame. The lighting on the face is good. The grasses at the bottom really gives the idea of the perspective/angle.

Dan, the owl really pops! Yeah, who needs a super-tele when you can shoot such an image at 275mm?

Thanks all! Charles, you are correct...I did indicate in the description that the subject was baited.

You all did so well on this trip. Great intense stare and action on this. These guys are so cool. I can't believe how well you did with flight shots using the 1-400 great job

Daniel - so hard to pick a favorite of the series but this may be mine. As others have said, the low position in frame, wing spread, bg and intensity of the eyes all combine for a superb image.

Hi Dan, this really pops so well from the BG. Excellent exposure, detail and sharpness, and just love the intense eye contact. You guys certainly had plenty opportunities with these guys, and made the most of it too. Well captured.

Might be my favorite from this series. The wing position is very nice with the primaries showing well and the "locked on" stare is great. The distant forest BG and the snow is beautiful. Well done, again:)
