    Default A Snarling Beast.

Took one last trip to the Oregon Coast today for a last look at the Snowies at the South Jetty.
There were up to Five most of the winter, today, down to just one that I could find.
This is a fairly large crop as I did not want to spook the last one left.
I will probably post some larger Habitat photos at some point as that is mostly what I got.
I did like the pose in this one.
I know Snowies have become passe due to the Irruptions, but they are still a thrill to photograph
as I may never see one again.

Definitely looks like a beast alright.I like the hunched over pose with the squinty eyes. Must have been a slight fog, adds to the scene. Not a natural perch but looks like we're he/she would be comfortable..
Techs look good and the owl is sharp. Well done.

hahahaha...had to laugh at this one, a classic shot Dan.....if looks could kill...this'd be the one.

Liking very much the composition in the grass and weathered timber....the grass has a nice quality of softness and light - dream like....and as I often state......" love the subtle earthy colors

Nice habitat shot, I don't think owls will ever become passe to me.

I understand your comment about the snowies possibly being passe as well, I feel the same about Great Grays but as you say you never know when the next chance will arise! I love the pose and especially the setting and BG. I could see adding to the blacks, especially to the subject (eyes and bill are hazy)

Dan, I think the composition works very well despite the large crop and difficult big logs up front. The pose is very unusual, which makes this image interesting.

Hi Dan, interesting stare from this fellow, and Im fine with the surrounding FG and BG, as I appreciate your concern over these guys. No doubt you will get to see them again.

Owls are always great to see and photograph.
Love the pose and the habitat, Dan.
Yesterday I drove around for about three hours on untravelled country roads looking for Snowy.
    I found none.
Years ago I would find up to seven and always would find at least four or five.

Most unique pose I've ever seen of a Snowy! Excellent! She is quite focused and surely looking like she is ready to Pounce! The surrounding environment contributes nicely here and the rustic "perch" works too.

The hunch back of Oregon Coast?
I like the earth tones and misty feel. Grasses are lovely and perch is weathered enough to be pretty.
Not my favorite pose but an unusual one to see.
I like the wispy feathers around the left of the face.
Some day, I will see one in real life and I would never think these beauties are passe,
    Gail
