I shot this yesterday using 1D Mark IV, 300 + 2X TC, ISO 400, f/8.0, 1/1600 tripod and gimbal head. I know it's pretty much centered, but from the angle I had on the incoming birds I did the best I could. C&C greatly appreciated.

    Don,

Not bad, nice job using tripod with all that FL, was this a large crop. What does large crop mean you might ask (smile). Was the subject at least 15% of the frame or how many pixels remain before sizing,..just basic figures not down to the 1 percent.

Centering the subject is (ok) sometimes and as the photographer tell us what you were thinking. In this image the left hand side seems short and not enough fly into space,..lets see what others say. On balance, looks a bit soft ,..oh by the way,..in the Education & Tutorial Forum there is a real good thread on tripod technique ,..a must read by James. Look it up and practice and show me more and more, thanks for posting get back out there!

Jeff...I agree about enough fly space. Adding to the left and cropping from the right
would help. But....maybe just cropping off the right, just pass the tip of the wing, might
be enough, enough to give the illusion there's more space on the left?

I'd try that Don first...just crop off the right and see what that looks like. I'd do it, but
    I'm at work. Bummer.

Good stuff above. If the image quality allowed I would crop a little tighter and move the bird to the right. A smaller sun phase angle (more behind you rather than to the right side) would have lit the bird better.
